Since Arizona was only a territory of the famed Old West (not yet a state), Molly Butler Lodge has been famous for its exceptionally good eats and its fun, friendly atmosphere. Originally, the lodge was a place where hunters, fishermen and visitors to Greer could stay for free – although guests would routinely share in daily chores to maintain the frontier lodge. It was Molly’s daughter Hannah who finally mustered the courage to start charging guests 25 cents per meal.
Fast forward almost a century and Molly’s has been voted one of “101 Best Places to Eat in AZ” and has been named among the “Top 25 Best Restaurants in Arizona” by Arizona Highways Magazine.
In fact, Molly’s became so well-known for its great hospitality and delicious food that the guest list at the Lodge grew to include such famous Americans as Presidents Herbert Hoover and Teddy Roosevelt, Western novelist Zane Grey, and legendary movie star John Wayne.
In fact, during his stay, President Hoover gifted Molly with the White House Cook Book from which she derived her now Famous Prime Rib recipe.
Some of Molly’s other guest favorites today include a dish we now call AJ’s Boomer Sooner Chop– a hunk of all natural Pork grilled slow and glazed with succulent cinnamon apple slices, our tender Redbird Chicken with it’s savory mystery gravy dancing with sliced mushrooms, and our fresh and flaky Halibut Filet grilled to perfection and served with an addictive Orange White Wine Sauce!
